Our apprentices

Although the Sonic Training Academy is new, we have put lots of people through all sorts of apprenticeships, including the biomedical science degree. Here are a few of our trainees who are at different stages of their training.

Luis

Luis Hakrama

Luis Hakrama started his apprenticeship with the Sonic Training Academy in 2023 and he is currently in the Blood Sciences department at the Halo Building. Luis thought the apprenticeship was the perfect opportunity to gain industry experience whilst continuing his academic development in the pursuit of a biomedical science degree.

“The apprenticeship has been challenging at times but also very rewarding with many opportunities to develop my professional character and network with biomedical scientists of which I aspire to become. The training academy has been an excellent addition to this apprenticeship which provides relevant knowledge for working effectively in a laboratory, the lectures are engaging and are beneficial for the development of mine and other apprentice’s skills through group collaboration and realistic case studies."

Zuzanna

Zuzanna Kepska

Zuzanna Kepska started her apprenticeship with the Sonic Training Academy in 2023 and is currently working in the Blood Sciences department at Barnet Hospital. Zuzanna has always been fascinated with science and found herself exploring different routes and career paths to embark on. She previously worked as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.

“Working as an MLA is what ultimately peaked my interest in the Biomedical Science field and this pushed me to apply for this apprenticeship. So far, on my journey, I have learnt so many new interesting things – while it’s only been 4 months, I can only imagine what I will learn over 4 years. The Sonic Training Academy has been pivotal in helping me shape my future career, through the support and the incredible training opportunities, I could not imagine myself in a better position.”

Millie

Millie Kiseke

Millie Kiseke is currently a first-year apprentice and will complete her apprenticeship in 2027. She started her apprenticeship with the Sonic Training Academy and is currently working in one of our central London Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories.

“During my time as an apprentice, I have gained so many lab skills and enjoyed my time thoroughly. The balance between university and work is manageable and there are so many people willing to help and guide you. The knowledge and information that I have learnt in the lab would of taken me years to get to that level and I’m very grateful for the opportunity. The discipline that I have been put in really resonates with me and I have so much fun at work as well as having time to have fun with university sports groups.”

Lewis

Lewis Bonnici

Lewis Bonnici is currently a first-year apprentice and will complete her apprenticeship in 2027. He started his apprenticeship with the Sonic Training Academy and is currently working in the Blood Sciences department at Blackheath Hospital, London.

“I opted for a degree apprenticeship because of its unique fusion of both academic and practical studies. Choosing a degree apprenticeship seamlessly integrates you into the industry, allowing you to gain invaluable work experience alongside earning a degree. While there was an initial adjustment period with juggling a full-time job and university work, the support from the Sonic Training Academy and my team in the laboratory has eased the challenge.”
